Me and Music
Music,
what kind of music do I listen to? I’ve always been surrounded by music, all
types. My mom’s love has always been country, so yes, she was “Country, when
Country wasn’t cool”. She exposed my sisters and I to all her favorites while
riding through town in her huge 1979 LTD, that thing was a tank! Jack, my step
father came into my life when I was only 3 years old, so yeah, he’s been around
a while. It wasn’t uncommon for him to refer to himself as the music genius of
our house. He had every album from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Clear Creedence
Revival, Grand Funk Railroad, you name it he had it. With all his music I was
exposed to something other than Country, and I started to like it. As I grew
into a teenager I began to listen to my own style of music. New Kids on the
Block or N.K.O.T.B., Janet Jackson or even Michael Bolton. By this time, I
would say I’ve been pretty exposed to different music styles or so I thought.

Years
passed and music artist seem to be more popular for the “one hit wonders” than
having multiple albums as previous artists. As soon as you really got into what
you thought was an upcoming artist they were exposed for not actually
performing the songs and their career gone overnight. As I became more mature I
always found myself leaning back towards that country genre. Was it because the
older I get more like my mother I’m becoming or is it just comforting to me?
That question ran through my mind several times before I just realized, country
music is really what I love. Present day you’ll find me listening to Christian,
classic rock, country, Tejano, hip hop and some R&B. I’m really easy going
and no matter what’s on the station I’ll sing along. As far as my car goes,
unless you pay for the gas you don’t get to pick the music.
