Is strong beautiful?
Does having stronger hair make you beautiful? That’s what this
advertisement states, but is it true? The Pantene Pro-V 3-minute Miracle Daily
Conditioner advertisement caught my eye as a consumer and the desire to have long,
full, thick, strong hair. The advertisement states boldly that “Strong is
Beautiful” (Cosmopolitan 15), but is it really? Does a woman need strong hair
to maintain beauty? Do women with thin hair or no hair at all feel just as
beautiful as a woman with full strong hair? As a consumer this is just how the
ad wants to reel you in. First glance, there is a Pop Star Icon as the model,
that would entice anyone to keep reading. The model has long full gorgeous
strong hair, deep dark brown sparkling eyes and silky nude lips but the focus
is her hair and that’s what catches my eye first. I want that kind of hair, is
this daily conditioner going to make my hair look like hers? If so, order me a
case of this stuff! For any consumer that was unfortunate to not have the great
hair genes, this ad appears that one daily conditioner could give you those
genes instantly. Desperate for beautiful
hair and willing to try anything, that is who this ad is hoping to capture.
Along with the other women that already have full beautiful dry hair.
This advertisement is specifically designed to capture the
attention of women at any age. Every woman dreams of having great hair. Even younger girls are starting to put harsh
chemicals in their hair or using heat
devices while styling their hair. The merchant using a Pop Icon in the ad in my
opinion will maximize the marketing of the ad, this is the merchants way of
boosting sales and obtaining cliental. The Pop Icon is a young Icon at that,
she catches the attention of the younger generation as well as the older
generation. She is beautiful, she is a star and her hair is gorgeous. What
catches your attention first? The full thick strong sleek dark hair, her
glowing tint of nude lips, or is it those gorgeous brown captivating eyes that
draw you in to the ad? The ad is yelling at you, if you want to look like a
star, buy this conditioner and your hair will be as gorgeous as hers. What is
the ad telling me? It still implies that strong is beautiful, is my hair strong
and is my hair the only thing that makes me or a person beautiful? This is a
risky line to use as a merchant, in the context of strong hair being beautiful
it’s true, but it only takes one consumer to take offense to something in an ad
to begin a boycott towards the merchant.
The ad works though, it caught my attention and in the past
it would have worked on me. On my way
to the local drug store or the nearest grocery to give this new found miracle
product a try. Now, as an educated consumer there is research and reviews that
are more accessibly available for consumer information. With access to this
type of information the consumer can investigate the product before just
falling for the ad and buying it. I know this has helped me save money on
products or marketing ads that were not a right fit for me. It is the rights of the consumer to do your
homework and educate yourself on the product before believing every ad you see
or read. Do yourself a favor and read the reviews and ask professionals their
opinion on what is the best product for you. My hair stylists will recommend a
leave in conditioner when she feels my hair needs it. She will also suggest
what shampoo and conditioner works well with my hair type without spending a
fortune. This process helps eliminate purchasing products that aren’t suitable
for your needs. As for this ad, it suits its purpose, its done its point. It
grabbed they eye and got the reader involved in its marketing plot. Next time
walk down the aisle for hair products and see how many females are looking at
this product or have it in their basket. It will astonish you how advertising
works.
